Olive’s History

Olive was based on concept art I had created in 2022 and was heavily inspired by GLaDOS from the Portal series. I created the 3D model for Olive in Maya around the same time I made the Mechanical Scorpion and the Crystal Sentry.


The name Olive comes from the green features displayed on the CRT-TV in which she resides. Olive was created by a lone computer scientist after he’d finally discovered the missing piece needed to create consciousness. After abandoning his creation out of fear and regret, Olive eventually transformed into the monstrous entity seen today. She embodies what I like to call “digital eldritch horror”.

The Forsaken Tomb

Olive was also the star of my 3D Design project: The Forsaken Tomb. This project was a diorama I created inspired by Portal 2's environments. It follows an explorer as he discovers the final resting place of Olive, the Rogue AI. I used a 3D printer to create a very scaled down version of her to place in the chamber at the opposite end of the room. To get everything to the correct scale, I planned and blocked out my project in Maya. This also helped me nail down the lighting and feel of the diorama very quickly.
